Chiswick Park, London
The project is a major new office development in West London and consists of 12 buildings with both office, retail and leisure use within a public parkland setting.
CFA were responsible for the detail design and implementation of a landscape that is of breathtaking proportions and totally enhances the site and beyond. The 13ha brownfield site was a former London Transport bus works.
The landscape impact from Chiswick High Road is immediate. Magestic stands of Dawn Redwood tower alongside the modern buildings, with a simple logic, 'to produce an attractive environment so that people will enjoy work'. The principle character of the park landscape is groups of large trees, set within sweeping grass, with bonded gravel paths facilitating clear circulation for pedestrians.
Chiswick Park Development Phase 3
Phase 3 construction work is underway at Chiswick Park. Site works include a refurbished Event Square and the Discovery Area, a continuation of the landscape designed to be a peaceful, more private setting between Building 5 and the lake.
Event Square, concept designed by West 8, is a multi-purpose events space featuring quality hard landscaping with performance space and games courts. CFA’s detailing of the soft landscaping scheme provides colour and texture with Lavandula, Escallonia and Sarcocca planted in raised strips around the events area. This architectural use of plant material contrasts with the informal masses of trees, shrubs and groundcover, which makes up the main character of the site. Moveable planters are situated in the space with seasonal interest planting. New trees are also being planted around Event Square. These include Prunus Avium ‘Plena’, Betula Siberica and Quercus palustris.
The Discovery Area provides seating with ground level illumination for day and evening use and the surrounding Nandina domestica hedge ensures that it is secluded but not enclosed.
