Project name

St Stephen’s, Walbrook

Regeneration of a historic churchyard, creating a valuable green space in the heart of London. The landscape has been formed by a series of mounded planter beds which are enhanced by shrub planting and a mix of tree species, introducing a vertical element to the space.

The design concept developed by the design team and Client was to ‘’To create an ‘oasis’ of space within a city environ. The landscape had to strongly identify and reinforce the architectural and historic surroundings, and form a consistent design language throughout the site. Bearing in mind the scale of the buildings that enclose the space, particular attention is to create a green foil when viewed from above and a more human scale landscape at ground level with a sense of place.’’

The proposal has also taken into considerations the prominent historic environment and creates a design intent that causes the minimum of disturbance for the maximum benefit of the landscape.

Alongside design and plant procurement services, CFA undertook landscape project and contract administrator services on this project. CFA continues to be involved through our maintenance consultancy role.

The churchyard was completed at in late 2011
